Governor Abbott activated emergency resources to protect lives and infrastructure across 134 counties, covering two-thirds of Texas, ahead of a severe winter storm, officials said.
- On Monday, Governor Greg Abbott directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate state emergency response resources ahead of winter weather expected Thursday.
- The National Weather Service warns an arctic front will bring freezing precipitation, with Central Texas under a Winter Storm Watch Jan. 24–Jan. 26 and freezing temperatures Saturday to Monday.
- The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas National Guard have deployed extra crews, while CenterPoint Energy marshaled over 3,000 linemen and staging sites in Houston, officials said.
