GOP Senators Release Fauci Texts Discussing Covid Vaccine Risk to Pregnant Women
Senators released 11 texts showing Fauci and other officials weighing a theoretical miscarriage risk against benefits as more than 10,000 pregnant women were vaccinated.
- On Monday, Republican Senators Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Rand Paul of Kentucky released text messages from Dr. Anthony Fauci's government-issued phone, revealing internal discussions about COVID-19 vaccine safety among top federal health officials in January 2021.
- Internal discussions between CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, and Fauci noted that fever and "cytokine storms" after the second vaccine dose "theoretically could be associated with miscarriage in the 1st trimester."
- Despite these internal concerns, Fauci publicly stated on August 30, 2021, that "tens and tens and tens of thousands" of vaccinated pregnant women showed "no indication whatsoever" of adverse issues, contradicting his private caution.
- Obstetrician Dr. James Thorp published critiques of a June 2021 New England Journal of Medicine study, arguing the data on spontaneous abortion rates were presented misleadingly regarding vaccine safety.
- Johnson and Paul said they would release additional messages "as soon as possible," with Johnson telling Fox News Digital, "I think this is the tip of the iceberg" regarding Fauci's phone contents.
