Google Turns Chrome Into an AI Browser with Gemini Support in India — Top Features, How to Use and More
On Wednesday, Google announced it is bringing Gemini integration for Chrome to India, Canada, and New Zealand, with users seeing an Ask Gemini icon on the tab bar to activate the assistant.
Last September, Google introduced Gemini in Chrome in the U.S. via a floating window, and earlier this year, added sidebar-based tools.
Prompts can use context from up to 10 open tabs, and Gemini can tap into Calendar, Docs, Drive, Maps, Search, YouTube, plus users can compose Gmail messages and edit images with Nano Banana 2.
Google says Gemini includes safeguards to block malicious prompts and requires user confirmation for sensitive actions, while human reviewers may sample chats retained up to three years.
This expansion brings Gemini to desktop platforms including Chromebook Plus, Mac, Windows, and Chrome for iOS in India, supporting Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and English.
Google has also started integrating Gemini into the Chrome browser for Indian users. This means that Chrome users will now find Gemini in the side panel, allowing them to multitask.
