It's Now Very Easy to Switch Password Managers on Android!
The new transfer experience lets users move passwords and passkeys in a few taps and skips duplicate entries, Google said.
- On Thursday, Google introduced a new "transfer experience" on Android that allows users to move passwords and passkeys between managers without downloading insecure CSV files.
- Migrating between login organizers previously required downloading potentially insecure files, a tedious process that risked exposing sensitive data, which Google's update eliminates.
- Users select the import option in their new manager, which prompts Android to automatically detect compatible apps on the device and securely coordinate the data migration.
- Android handles the migration in "just a few seconds" once initiated, and the system requires screen lock authentication, such as a Google Password Manager PIN, to remain secure.
- The tool currently supports Google Password Manager, Bitwarden Password Manager, and Dashlane, and Google confirmed that additional partners will be added to the platform in the future.
