Arsenal's Merino Opens up on Injury Recovery Struggles
The midfielder has returned after nearly four months out with a rare foot injury and could be available for the Budapest match on May 30.
Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino returned to first-team training on Thursday after four months sidelined with a fractured foot sustained in a 3-2 loss to Manchester United on January 25.
Unable to walk for two months following surgery, Merino relied on a mobility scooter to maintain his routine, admitting he faced a choice to "cry myself to extinction" or stay positive.
Teammates formed a tunnel to welcome Merino back to the training pitch, where he said, "Honestly I woke up and I was feeling like the first day of school."
Merino is eyeing a potential return to the matchday squad at Selhurst Park on Sunday, hoping to contribute to Arsenal's Champions League final against Paris and Spain's World Cup bid.
Merino's return provides a late boost as Arsenal celebrates securing the club's first championship in 22 years, and he said, "Whenever the gaffer needs, I'll be ready to do whatever he wants.
