Good News for Travellers! Cabinet Approves Delhi Metro Expansion; 13 New Stations, Including 10 Underground, to Come Up
- On December 24, 2025 the Union Cabinet approved Delhi Metro's Project 5-A at a cost of 12015, covering about 16 kilometres on three routes with 13 stations, including 10 underground.
- Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said Phase 5-A will push Delhi Metro past 400 kilometres, serving over 65 lakh commuters and ranking among the world’s top five systems.
- The plan lays out specific corridors including Ramakrishna Ashram Marg–Indraprastha , Aerocity–Airport Terminal-1 , and Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj .
- Kalindi–Tughlakabad extension will give direct Gurugram connectivity to commuters from Noida and Faridabad, while Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the project will save a significant amount of commuter time.
- DMRC currently operates 12 lines spanning about 395 km with 289 stations and recorded 81.87 lakh passenger journeys on August 8, 2025.
