GM EV Sales More than Double, Boosting Third-Quarter Totals

GM doubled electric vehicle sales year-over-year to 66,501 in Q3, boosted by federal tax credits and strong crossover and SUV demand, marking the best sales pace in a decade.

  • On Wednesday, General Motors Co. reported U.S. third-quarter sales rose 8%, selling 710,347 vehicles, the most of any automaker.
  • Driven by the up-to-$7,500 federal credit, General Motors Co. more than doubled EV sales in Q3 as consumers rushed purchases before the credit expired Tuesday.
  • GM delivered 66,501 EVs in Q3, up 107% year-over-year, and its year-to-date EV total through Q3 reached 144,668, more than 103% higher than last year.
  • GM's year-to-date results show sales rose 10% to 2.2 million vehicles, Cadillac jumped 25% to 46,525, and crossovers and SUVs set a new Q3 record, GM said.
  • To sustain demand into Q4, GM and Ford rolled out dealer programs that had financing arms buy EV inventory, enabling discounts while GM prepares eight electric models including an all-new Bolt EV.
