Global temperatures breach 1.5C limit over 12 months period for first time
- Global temperatures have exceeded 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels for 12 consecutive months, bringing the world closer to breaching the "Paris agreement" milestone.
- The impacts of climate change, such as extreme heatwaves, droughts, wildfires, and floods, continue to accelerate, with every tenth of a degree of warming causing more harm. An extra half a degree of global warming greatly increases the risks of crossing irreversible tipping points.
- Urgent action is needed to cut carbon emissions in order to slow down warming and prevent catastrophic consequences. Halting global warming is possible by reaching net zero carbon emissions.
