Scotland's Gilmour Ruled Out of World Cup with Knee Injury
The Napoli midfielder was taken for a scan after a first-half knee injury, and Steve Clarke said he is worried about the World Cup.
Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour was ruled out of the 2026 World Cup on Saturday after sustaining a knee injury during the nation's 4-1 friendly victory over Curacao at Hampden Park.
The 24-year-old fell to the turf unchallenged during the first half and was substituted immediately; a post-match scan confirmed the extent of his knee injury.
Goals from Lawrence Shankland, Ryan Christie, and Findlay Curtis secured the 4-1 win, while Scotland manager Steve Clarke said he was "devastated" for Gilmour, calling the timing "so, so cruel."
Clarke is considering squad adjustments, with 19-year-old Tyler Fletcher and standby options Connor Barron, Andy Irving, and Lennon Miller available for potential call-ups before departure.
While Gilmour returns to SSC Napoli to commence rehabilitation, Scotland travels to the United States for their Group C World Cup opener against Haiti on June 13, 2026.
The World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the US starts on June 11. Through this live blog, we will keep you updated on all the latest news regarding the hunt for the world title.
