Germany wants to buy the Typhoon long-range missile system from the United States, a move aimed at boosting the country's deterrent potential, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said during a visit to Washington, DPA reported. The Typhoon system can launch various types of guided cruise missiles with a range of up to 2,000 km.

The weapons system could achieve targets in Russia. Pistorius stressed, however, that it serves exclusively deterrence.
