As of 2027, the new EU Emissions Trading (ETS-2) will be charging prices for the first time across Europe on CO2 emissions in the areas of buildings and transport.
More than a dozen EU Member States, including Germany, have asked the European Commission to amend its plans for the introduction of a carbon price in transport and heating fuels from 2027 in order to avoid price spikes, as reported in the Tagesspiegel Background newsletter. An alliance of environmental and social welfare organisations stated that the EU’s second emissions trading system, ETS 2, should be designed more fairly.
