German Exports Rebound as Shipments to U.S. Increase for First Time in Six Months

Data published Friday indicate Germany's exports climbed 1.4% to 131.1 billion , exceeding the 0.5% expected, FactSet reported.
After months of tariff-related declines, US demand recovered as exports to the United States rose nearly 12% month-on-month, the Federal Statistical Office reported Friday.
Despite the overall gain, exports to China fell 2.2%, reflecting weaker demand and growing competition, while German imports from China rose more than 6%, following a recent five-month decline.
Carsten Brzeski of ING said 'German exports are not falling off a cliff' but added the September rise is too weak to dispel concerns about persistent structural weakness.
As imports expanded faster than exports, the trade surplus fell, with the monthly rise in imports the biggest since January, led in part by China shipments.
