German Chancellor Merz Says He Has Doubts over Iran War Aims
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed doubts about the United States and Israel having a clear strategy to end the war in Iran and warned that regime change is unlikely to be achieved if that is the goal.
Merz stated that Germany is involved in diplomatic efforts and could help stabilize the region after hostilities end, including possibly securing the Strait of Hormuz, but only with international approval and a ceasefire.
Since strikes on Iran began on February 28, Iran has retaliated with strikes against Israel, U.S. bases, and Gulf states, and is blocking fuel exports via the Strait of Hormuz.
Merz stated that U.S. President Donald Trump understands that the Iran conflict is not a NATO war and has accepted that NATO cannot support it, according to the Chancellor.
In clear words, Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz wants US President Donald Trump to have reproved in a telephone conversation. Now, the Chancellor has gone down and accused Trump of a massive escalation with an open outcome, while openly questioning the US war goals in Iran.
The Federal Chancellor doubts that a fall of the leadership in Iran can be achieved. In the US President's action in the war, he sees a threatening escalation.
