Georgia officer kills a man who attacked a firefighter with a machete, police say
- On Monday, a Wrightsville police officer shot a man who began attacking a firefighter outside the Sidetrack gas station on East College Street in Wrightsville, Georgia.
- Diamond Seltzer, 32, of Washington County, arrived in a vehicle and suddenly began swinging a `machete` in a completely unprovoked attack, putting the officer and firefighter in immediate danger, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.
- Seltzer was taken to Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin and pronounced dead around 4:00 a.m. after a Wrightsville Police Department officer shot him twice, then two more times as he tried to rise.
- The firefighter sustained severe arm injuries but is expected to survive, and the Wrightsville police officer was not injured, officials said.
- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken the lead and plans to send Seltzer's body to GBI's Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy; the case will then go to the Dublin Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office.
