Family Says Man Armed with AR-15-Style Rifle Racially Targeted Their Gathering
Authorities say additional charges are expected after a family member shot Kinzer, and investigators recovered an AR-style rifle and body armor.
On Sunday, Jeffrey Tyler Kinzer allegedly opened fire at a family reunion in Leesburg, Georgia, after initially driving past and shouting racial slurs at Black attendees gathered on Autumn Leaf Drive.
Witness Ramell Green reported Kinzer 'started yelling the N-word' during an initial drive-by around 9 p.m.; roughly five minutes later, Kinzer returned wearing body armor and carrying an AR-15-style rifle.
Roughly 20 children and older adults scrambled for cover as gunfire erupted; witness Loucindi Broussard, 62, sheltered under a car with her 77-year-old sister, saying 'I cried all night.'
Kinzer was charged with aggravated assault and released from Lee County Jail on a $5,000 bond; the Sheriff's Office stated additional charges are expected and seeks witnesses at 229-759-6012.
Family members questioned the bond amount and severity of charges, while deputies recovered an AR-style rifle and body armor from the scene, determining multiple firearms were used in the attack.
