Georgia GOP Hopefuls Running For The U.S. Senate Spar Over Immigration, Ethics Investigation
The candidates clashed over immigration and a House ethics probe as they compete to face Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in November.
Congressman Mike Collins and Derek Dooley faced off in an Atlanta Press Club debate Sunday ahead of the June 16 primary runoff to secure the GOP nomination challenging Sen. Jon Ossoff in November.
Collins claimed Dooley supports "amnesty" for immigrants, though Dooley denied this while criticizing Congress for failing to fix the broken immigration system for 40 years.
Dooley questioned Collins about a House Ethics Committee probe regarding Brandon Phillips, alleging improper use of government funds. Collins dismissed the investigation as a "nothing burger."
Both candidates voiced unwavering support for President Donald Trump, backing a $1 billion Secret Security funding proposal and a $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization fund" to compensate political investigation targets.
Early voting for the runoff begins June 8, with the winner set to face Ossoff in the general election. Meanwhile, Ossoff held a joint campaign event with Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms.
