Prosecutors Charge Aurora GEO Employee Accused of Shooting at Protesters with Assault
Prosecutors say Brandon Booth fired a single shot at two protesters, and the wounded woman was treated for an ankle injury.
- Prosecutors charged 42-year-old GEO Group employee Brandon Booth with first-degree assault and attempted assault on Wednesday, stemming from the shooting of 21-year-old Emma Landis outside the Aurora ICE Processing Center.
- The confrontation began after protesters blocked the facility entrance, leading to a verbal dispute. According to police, Booth claimed he became "extremely angry" after hearing threats against his children, stating his anger reached "a 15 out of 10" before he fired his handgun.
- After firing a single shot at the two women, Booth fled the scene in his vehicle. Aurora SWAT officers detained him shortly after at 3700 Havana Street, police reported.
- Inside Adams County District Court on Wednesday, Booth appeared in handcuffs and remains in custody on a $100,000 cash surety bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 13.
- Landis returned to the protest site on Sunday, stating she plans to continue advocating against the treatment of detainees. She said she does not want her injury used as an "example" of what happens when people protest.
