The province of Gelderland has prevented the arrival of new industry on the site of a former paper factory in Eerbeek, right next to the Veluwe. The Provincial States unanimously approved a preparatory decision in a closed meeting. As a result, possible industrial developments on this location have been blocked for a year and a half. Gelderland has used this heavy political instrument because it has other plans for the site.
