PVV leader Geert Wilders named second deputy chair of Dutch parliament
Geert Wilders, leader of the PVV, has been appointed second deputy to the newly elected chair of the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, Thom van Campen. The announcement came from Van Campen on Thursday, prior to a parliamentary debate. Wieke Paulusma of D66 will step in first when Van Campen is absent, and if she is unavailable, Wilders will take the chair in the plenary session.
Geert Wilders has been appointed Second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. The PVV leader thus advances to a prominent position within the Presidium, shortly after his party colleague Martin Bosma lost the presidency. The appointment follows the election of Thom van Campen (VVD) as the new Speaker of the House.
PVV leader Geert Wilders will be the second deputy to newly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives Thom van Campen. Van Campen announced this earlier Thursday, prior to a debate. Initially, Wieke Paulusma (D66) will replace Van Campen, but if she is also unable to attend, Wilders will take over the gavel in the plenary chamber.
