US Open Finalist Ben Shelton Is Out of the Shanghai Masters in the Third Round
Arthur Gea earned the biggest win of his career and his first victory over a top-10 player after converting both tiebreaks.
- On Sunday, Open finalist Ben Shelton was eliminated from the ATP Shanghai Masters in the third round, falling to 21-year-old Frenchman Arthur Gea in straight sets.
- Capitalizing on three match points at 6-3 in the second-set tiebreaker, Gea secured victory 7-6 , 7-6 as Shelton faltered after two hours of play.
- Following his first professional title in July at a 250-level event in Los Cabos, Gea said his game was "all about focus, concentration" and staying "ready for every point."
- Elsewhere at the tournament, 26th-seeded Karen Khachanov defeated Adrian Mannarino 6-2, 6-4, while U.S. Open champion Alexander Zverev was scheduled for a Sunday night match against Quentin Halys.
- Advancing in the bracket, Gea now faces either Francisco Cerundolo or Jakub Mensik, while top-ranked Jannik Sinner withdrew from Shanghai this week due to a right knee injury.
