HIAWASSEE, GA – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating the death of an inmate at the Towns County Jail following a request from the Towns County Sheriff’s Office. On Saturday, August 2, 2025, at approximately 3:05 a.m., deputies discovered 44-year-old Brian William Whitney of Hiawassee unresponsive in his jail cell.
