European countries have not been sufficiently critical of Israel's war in Gaza. During his initial visit to Israel, Foreign Minister Wadephul assured Israel's security would remain a German state raison d'être. However, he also found clear words and warned against a purely military strategy in conflict with Hamas.

Foreign Minister Wadephul was sceptical about the expansion of the Israeli military operation in Gaza. The plans for the distribution of humanitarian aid without the Uno were welcomed by the new German chief diplomat.
