Gaza flotilla activists to be released from Israel detention and deported
Adalah said the pair were held without charges after an Israeli court extended detention to allow more questioning.
Two activists, Saif Abu Keshek from Spain and Thiago Avila from Brazil, were detained by Israeli authorities on April 29 after Israeli forces intercepted the Gaza-bound flotilla they were traveling on.
The activists were held on suspicions including affiliation with a terrorist organization and illegal activities, but both Spain and Brazil deemed their detentions unlawful.
The activists were remanded in custody by Israel's Ashkelon Magistrate's Court until May 10.
Human rights group Adalah announced on May 9 that the activists would be released and handed over to immigration custody pending deportation, with Adalah monitoring the process to ensure it proceeds as planned.
