Gautam Gambhir Insists on Dressing-Room Security Amid Questions over India's Selection Policy
On Sunday, New Zealand chased down 192 to win the fifth T20I in Hamilton, clinching the final match and reducing India's series triumph to a 3-2 margin.
Both head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shreyas Iyer have faced questions over Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's limited opportunities, with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma holding the opening spots.
Gambhir defended his approach, stating, "My job is to take the right decisions, not the popular decisions," while emphasizing dressing room security over external chatter.
India arrived in New Zealand less than 24 hours after finishing the West Indies series, a punishing schedule Gambhir said required significant squad adaptability to conditions.
Dismissing dead rubbers, Gambhir insisted every international game is an opportunity to learn and evolve, a philosophy he applies equally in the dressing room.
There's no doubting Vaibhav Suryavanshi's talent, but competition for a spot in Team India is fierce. After missing out on the fifth T20I, all eyes will be on the young batsman's next opportunity to shine in the Indian team.
