Gas prices now higher under Trump than Biden-era average, analysis finds
AAA data show Trump’s average gasoline price is less than a cent above Biden’s as supply strains keep U.S. pump prices elevated.
According to AAA data released Monday, President Donald Trump has overseen a higher average gasoline price than former President Joe Biden, with the national average at $4.286 a gallon, the highest ever recorded this late in a year.
Prices surged after America and Iran entered a war, reducing crude movement and leaving global refiners with less capacity. Worldwide supply is short roughly 400,000 barrels a day of gasoline that Middle Eastern producers typically ship abroad.
Gas prices broke a record by remaining above $4 a gallon for 158 consecutive days earlier this month, according to GasBuddy. Disapproval of Trump's handling of gas prices has reached 73 percent among voters.
The Energy Department has set aside $150 million to invest in refineries to boost fuel output. The White House is drawing down the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and suspending the Jones Act to help lower costs.
Trump claims prices will drop once the war with Iran ends, though the conflict shows no sign of easing. Cost-of-living concerns drive midterm politics, with the Cook Political Report rating several key Senate races as toss-ups.
Gasoline and diesel prices in the US are on average higher during Donald Trump's second term than they were under Joe Biden, according to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA). The price hikes pose a serious political burden on the president ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
