On Wednesday, May 20, the Court of Appeal in Katowice concluded the years-long legal battle. Of the six defendants, only one can claim leniency. The remaining defendants' sentences remained unchanged.
The Court of Appeal in Katowice has largely upheld the prison sentences of those convicted of causing the 2019 tragedy in Szczyrk. Only one person's sentence was commuted. The ruling concerned drilling a gas pipeline, which resulted in an explosion. Eight people died, including four children.
