Gary Backes, veteran and devoted family man, dies at 91

Gary Alfonse Backes, 91, died peacefully March 15, at home in Evanston, surrounded by his wife and children. Gary was born in Glenburn, North Dakota. He graduated from St. John’s Preparatory School in Collegeville, Minnesota and Marquette University in Milwaukee in 1958, having taken time away from his studies to serve in the U.S. Navy.
