Marshall football: Rushing and turnover margins key for Herd at Georgia Southern

HUNTINGTON — Georgia Southern coach Clay Helton pointed out two thorns in the Eagles’ 4-4 record. In games where they lost either the rushing or turnover margin, Georgia Southern has lost. In each of its four victories, the Eagles have won both. It’s mostly a coincidence, but it does point to a key for a Marshall victory on Saturday in Statesboro, Georgia.

Game Note Gems: Herd and Eagles have history of I-AA success

In 2025, Georgia Southern won at Joan C. Edwards Stadium for the first time and secured bowl eligibility over Marshall. This time around, the Herd hopes to invade Statesboro, Georgia and secure a similar fate. Marshall leads the all-time series with the Eagles 6-4, winning six straight before the Eagles secured back-to-back wins in 2024 and 2025.
