This player has taken over a special kind of family heirloom here. We hope that it will remain in the family's possession for a long time and will survive many generations.

@eeegr: A FPGA is no longer so expensive, those of Gowin e.g. (cf. Tang nano cards using them), it is far from being unaffordable... And enough for a gameboy... See also the MisterPi and Tang Console projects...
