Mission Drishti, a Privately Developed Earth Observation Satellite, Loses Communication After Solar Storm
Bengaluru-Based startup GalaxEye lost communication with its Mission Drishti satellite after a geomagnetic solar storm disrupted the spacecraft during the early orbit phase.
Mission Drishti was the world's first OptoSAR satellite combining optical imaging and Synthetic Aperture Radar sensors on a single platform to capture Earth images regardless of weather or lighting conditions.
GalaxEye stated the mission achieved many engineering objectives and provided invaluable insights, which will accelerate the company’s move to bring more manufacturing and development processes in-house.
The company plans to launch two new OptoSAR satellites within the next 24 months and increase in-house manufacturing to improve quality and control.
