LAURENS COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA, JUL 10 – Judge Eugene C. Griffith, Jr. restricted public access to sensitive evidence to prepare for a hearing that will decide if defendants’ use of deadly force qualifies under South Carolina’s Stand Your Ground law.

The wrongful death lawsuit filed by Scott Spivey's family is inching toward a rare civil "stand your ground" hearing, with lawyers looking at how to get key out-of-state witnesses to a South Carolina courthouse.
