A court in Turkey has deposed the chairman of the largest opposition party Özgür Özel. After violent protests the situation continues to escalate. Mustafa Güney, mayor and supporter of Özel, was arrested.
In Turkey, another mayor from the opposition party CHP has been arrested. Mustafa Güney, mayor of the municipality of Güzelbahçe on the Turkish west coast, was taken into custody along with, among others, his wife and the head of the municipal building department. The arrests follow a few days after the forced departure of Özgür Özel as party leader.

Since the dismissal of Turkish opposition leader Özgür Özel, other CHP politicians have been arrested, including the mayor of the Güzelbahçe district in Izmir.
An operation was carried out this morning against the CHP-controlled Güzelbahçe Municipality in İzmir. Mayor Günay and four others, who were detained during the operation, were referred to the courthouse. It has been reported that Günay has been arrested.
