LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, JUL 16 – More than 4,000 National Guard troops face low morale and legal disputes over federal control during deployment to suppress immigration protests, officials and service members say.
- On July 15, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said 2,000 National Guard troops, half of those deployed by President Trump, were being released from federal control, adding that 'the lawlessness in Los Angeles is subsiding.'
- A U.S. district judge ruled June 12 that President Trump violated the law by deploying California National Guard troops to Los Angeles, and Newsom and Bonta sued the Trump administration over the move.
- An estimated 90% of National Guard troops in Los Angeles have not been deployed on daily missions, and troops and Marines say boredom and low morale are their biggest problems.

- On July 14, the government asked Judge Frimpong to stay the ruling pending review by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and the Trump administration filed papers seeking a stay of orders barring agents from detaining people without reasonable suspicion.
