LG Sinha orders evacuation of civilians from vulnerable areas
- On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir instructed local officials to relocate residents from high-risk border zones to safer areas in response to intense shelling.
- The directive followed escalating cross-border shelling by Pakistani troops after India conducted missile strikes targeting terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
- Sinha met with senior officials from the administration, police, and districts, instructing the deputy commissioners to provide displaced villagers with accommodation, meals, medical support, and travel arrangements.
- The shelling resulted in three civilian fatalities, five injuries, and damage to multiple homes, while Chief Minister Omar Abdullah approved the allocation of ₹5 crore for each district along the border and ₹2 crore for the remaining districts to manage emergency needs.
- The government stated it is fully prepared to handle any situation and guaranteed the safety of every citizen while closely monitoring ongoing tensions along the Line of Control.
