Fully autonomous AI expected within three years, newly launched Sapiens index reveals
The benchmark study found 67% of insurers expect fully autonomous AI within 2 to 3 years, and 25% already qualify as Autonomous Leaders.
Sapiens International Corporation launched the inaugural Sapiens Insurance AI Maturity Index on Wednesday, an annual benchmarking tool designed to evaluate artificial intelligence adoption and future aspirations across insurance carriers of all sizes.
Conducted by Research in Finance, the survey of 475 senior insurance professionals found that 87% of insurers are prioritizing agentic AI, even though only 16% have adopted the technology.
Results show 67% of respondents believe insurance AI will achieve full autonomy within two to three years, while 77% of insurers report that AI reduces product deployment times by an average of three months.
Despite 86% of users reporting confidence in AI decisions, 53% of AI work is checked by humans, with 15% of automated choices overridden by personnel, underscoring the industry's preference for human oversight.
Sapiens CEO Paul Wheeler warned that insurers must "accelerate their timelines or risk being left behind," noting that implementing the right strategies enables firms to build deeper customer trust and deliver superior digital user experiences.
