Fukui Junior High School Student Murder Case: On March 19, 1986, a 15-year-old female junior high school student was murdered in a municipal housing complex in Fukui City. About a year later, Shoji Maekawa was arrested. He was acquitted in the first trial, but the verdict was overturned in the second trial, and he was sentenced to seven years in prison, a sentence that was subsequently finalized. In 2011, a decision was made to grant a retrial.
