- On Friday, the Narcotics Control Bureau secured the return of fugitive drug kingpin Virender Singh Basoya from the United Arab Emirates . Basoya, accused in the Rs 6,000 crore Pune drug case, arrived on Air India flight AI 4310.
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah described the operation as a "new milestone" in the government's zero-tolerance policy against narcotics. The NCB had previously issued a Red Corner Notice against Basoya, who allegedly managed an international drug syndicate.
- "By tracing the criminal through a top-to-bottom and bottom-to-top approach, our agencies have once again proven that no matter where drug traffickers hide, they cannot escape the long arm of Indian law," Shah said. The government is actively targeting drug trafficking networks.
- Basoya's return follows the August 3 deportation of fugitive Vishakha Rathod from the UAE. Rathod, accused in a Rs 88 crore fraud case, remains in Maharashtra Police custody after being brought back via an Interpol Red Notice.
- Indian authorities continue tracking associates of the syndicate, including Sandeep Dhunia, who reportedly fled to Pakistan. This extradition effort signals a broader Centre crackdown to dismantle drug networks and bring fugitives hiding abroad to justice.
