Frontier passenger chokes off-duty flight attendant after trying to open exit door and cockpit on Chicago flight, police say

- On Sunday, Frontier Airlines Flight 3345 from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Chicago-O Hare International Airport diverted to Miami International Airport after passenger Juan Gabriel Reyes became disruptive onboard.
- Reyes attempted to open an emergency exit door about 45 minutes after departure, then approached the cockpit and shoved his shoulder aggressively against the pilot's door.
- When an off-duty flight attendant moved to use the restroom, Reyes attacked him, grabbing him by the head and choking him as crew and passengers worked to restrain him.
- The flight landed safely in Miami at approximately 11:55 p.m. local time on Sunday, where law enforcement boarded and arrested Reyes before the aircraft continued to Chicago.
- Reyes faces federal charges of interference with flight crew members and assault; the Federal Aviation Administration can seek civil penalties of up to $43,658 per violation for unruly passenger incidents.
