From Salman Khan, Baba Siddique to Tiger Shroff: The Lawrence Bishnoi gang hit list that keeps growing
Police linked the attack on the actor to the syndicate's vendetta against Salman Khan, citing Rs 700 million in value for his current film projects.
Actor Tiger Shroff survived an assassination attempt in Juhu, Mumbai, on Sunday when three men fired at his vehicle; the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility, citing a dispute with Salman Khan.
The gang's hostility dates back to a 1998 blackbuck poaching case in Rajasthan involving Salman; members Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu claimed responsibility for the attack, warning that anyone in Mumbai film industry working with Khan will face similar threats.
This attack marks an escalating campaign against entertainment personalities; earlier this year, assailants targeted Guru Randhawa's fitness center, while director Rohit Shetty, Ranveer Singh, and Aayush Sharma also received threats from the syndicate.
Trade guru Girish Wankhede said the incident is "very dangerous because the idea was not just to scare him but to kill him," as observers warned it will "send a wave of fear through the entire Bollywood community."
With nearly 800 million riding on Tiger, industry analysts suggest the shooting may not affect his immediate film releases, as post-production typically takes two to three months, by which time the news cycle may have passed.
