French carmaker Renault to produce long-range drones for French forces
Renault will produce up to 600 long-range drones monthly in France under a €1 billion contract to boost domestic defense amid rising drone use in conflicts, officials said.
- This past week, Renault confirmed it will produce long-range strike drones for France's DGA in partnership with Turgis Gaillard, at Le Mans and Cléon.
- President Emmanuel Macron has urged a 'war economy' and earlier this month pressed faster defence production, while Renault said it was contacted months ago by the French Ministry of the Armed Forces.
- The Chorus design measures 10 metres with an eight-metre wingspan, reaching 400kph and 5,000 metres, with Renault producing the chassis in Le Mans and engines in Cléon.
- If approved, Renault could receive a 10-year contract worth €1 billion and produce up to 600 drones monthly, with a Le Mans ACI plant line employing 200 employees of 1,800.
- European defence firms are repurposing auto capacity, as Russia and Ukraine are increasingly using cheap long-range drones, highlighting the need for mass production, reports said.
