Ant International’s Alipay+ Adds New Bank Partners Amid Cross-Border Mobile Payment Boom in Asia Pacific
Freedom Bank will let Kazakh customers pay in tenge through its SuperApp and at QR-code terminals, while Chinese tourists will use Alipay and WeChat Pay.
Freedom Bank has agreed to partner with Ant International and Tencent-owned WeChat Pay to enable cross-border payment services in Kazakhstan, expanding access to Chinese e-commerce platforms.
Evolving over two decades, Freedom Holding Corp. has transformed from a small brokerage startup into an international fintech ecosystem, leveraging global partnerships to integrate payment, cloud, and transportation technologies across markets.
Once technical integrations are complete, Freedom SuperApp users will pay via QR codes in Chinese stores and purchase goods from Taobao and AliExpress directly in the app, all in tenge.
Following recent negotiations in Shanghai, founder and CEO Timur Turlov said the company had become "a full-fledged partner of China's technology leaders," marking a major milestone in the firm's expansion.
Beyond payments, the firm is collaborating with Chinese partners to localize agricultural-drone manufacturing and expand cloud infrastructure, positioning Kazakhstan as a regional leader in artificial intelligence and digital innovation.
