FREE STATE, JUL 14 – The outbreak adds to 270 foot-and-mouth disease cases across five provinces, with vaccination and surveillance underway to contain spread within a 10km radius.
- A foot-and-mouth disease outbreak has occurred on a commercial farm in Moqhaka municipality, Free State, confirmed by the agriculture department.
- Joylene Van Wyk, a spokesperson for the agriculture ministry, stated that the property was quarantined on July 8, with surveillance and vaccination measures implemented.
- As of July, 270 outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease were reported across five provinces, with 249 unresolved, according to Van Wyk.
- KwaZulu-Natal is the most affected province with 191 outbreaks, while the Eastern Cape has 40 outbreaks, according to Van Wyk.
