Mother Charged with Murder in Death of 2-Year-Old Son in Frankfort, Illinois
Police said the child’s death is being treated as a domestic homicide as investigators continue to withhold the cause and manner of death.
On Friday, authorities charged 38-year-old Corie Walsh with three counts of first-degree murder following the death of her 2-year-old son, Barrett Walsh, discovered unresponsive Tuesday at their Frankfort home.
Officers responding to the 22700 block of Brook Stone Court found the child with a ligature around his neck, while three other children in the home remained unharmed and Walsh was discovered in a bathroom attempting to harm herself.
Prosecutors allege Walsh claimed she killed her son because he was the "devil" and the "antichrist." Witnesses stated she had recently become "very invested in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial," involving a mother who killed her children.
Walsh is currently held for medical treatment, according to Frankfort Police Chief Leanne Chelepis. Once released, she will be transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility to await a detention hearing.
Frankfort Mayor Keith Ogle urged residents to withhold judgment, saying the circumstances are "very difficult for the community." The Will County Coroner's Office classified the death as an "apparent homicide," with final cause pending toxicology results.
