French police stopped more than 4,300 migrants from reaching UK shores aboard small boats in the first three months of a new deal between the two countries, the Home Office said, as it seeks to demonstrate headway in cracking down on irregular crossings.
In the first three months of the new agreement between Britain and France, more than 4,300 irregular migrants were prevented from crossing the English Channel. French police units stopped 185 boat crossings, halting 61% of the attempts and dealing a blow to criminal organizations.

Britain has spent hundreds of millions of pounds trying to stop small boats crossing the English Channel. The latest agreement with France is worth £662 million over three years, with £501 million going towards strengthening existing controls in northern France and a further £161 million for new tactics.
