Air pollution in Ile-de-France costs about €28 billion a year, according to a study published Friday 26 September by Airparif, the independent body for air quality monitoring in Ile-de-France. This is the first regional assessment of the economic impacts of air pollution.
In the Paris region, the decrease in PM2.5 concentration in the air has helped to avoid several thousand premature deaths in ten years, but also to save health costs. This is the observation made this Friday 26 September by the agency Airparif, which recalls however that the situation can and must still improve.
Health costs alone account for 93% of this expenditure, due to premature deaths and diseases related to this pollution, notes the study published this Friday by Airparif.
The study conducted by the Observatoire de la qualité de l'air in Île-de-France is published as the Paris Climate Agreement is about to celebrate its ten years, while a national mobilization against the Low Emission Zones (LEZs) is scheduled for Saturday.
