Roughly 130 people attended the Sussex Lions Club session, where most of the 16 speakers expressed skepticism, though industry supporter Bill Crow argued opposition stems from "fear" and "not knowing the facts."
Chief Ross Perley of Neqotkuk and the Wolastoqey Nation criticized the government's engagement process, stating, "Our communities must be consulted on the scope of the review, environmental impacts and potential economic benefits."
Herron referred to the review as a "political" component to the issue, with the government set to determine next steps in January following the five-month fact-finding expedition.
