UK probes 34 porn sites under new age-check rules
UNITED KINGDOM, JUL 31 – Ofcom investigates four companies running 34 UK porn sites for failing to meet new age verification rules aimed at protecting children from online adult content.
Ofcom launched investigations on July 31, 2025, into four companies running 34 pornography sites to check new UK age verification rules.
These probes assess compliance with new age verification rules implemented on July 25 aimed at preventing minors from accessing adult material.
Ofcom is investigating four companies—8579 LLC, AVS Group, Kick Online Entertainment S.A., and Trendio Ltd—that operate 34 pornography websites attracting a combined total of more than nine million monthly visitors from the UK, to assess their compliance with new age-verification rules.
Ofcom said it can impose fines up to £18 million or 10% of global revenue and seek court orders for business disruption, such as blocking access or cutting payment services, if failures are found.
This enforcement marks an initial step in monitoring age assurance effectiveness, with further actions expected in coming months amid concerns about VPN circumvention and public opposition.
