Fortnite players can now apply for a portion of its $245 million FTC settlement
- US regulators are notifying 37 million people about their eligibility for compensation in a settlement with Epic Games Inc. The agreement includes $520 million in penalties and refunds, with $245 million specifically designated for customer refunds.
- The refunds are meant to cover unwanted purchases of in-game currency or virtual items on Fortnite. Eligible users include those charged for items they didn't want between January 2017 and September 2022, as well as those whose children made charges without their knowledge. The deadline to submit a claim for a refund is January 17, 2024.
- In addition to the refunds, Epic Games will pay a $275 million fine for violating children's privacy laws. The company implemented safeguards to prevent unintended purchases after the settlement.
