Kari Pekar, a former University of Iowa volleyball player, passed away on June 10 after battling cancer, the university's athletics department announced.

Hunter 06/25/26 Former University of Iowa Women’s volleyball letterwinner Kari (Mueller) Pekar has died following a battle with cancer. Pekar was an Iowa City native and died on June 10th at the age of 33. She played for the volleyball team from 2011-14. UI Volleyball posted on X that her compassion , joy and kindness will be forever remembered. A Celebration of Life will he held in Brookfield Wisconsin on July 30th.
