Former PML-N Senator Taj Afridi Dies in a Tragic Motorway Accident
Motorway police said the former PML-N senator died after a vehicle malfunction caused his car to veer off the M-1 motorway.
On Friday, former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz senator Taj Muhammad Afridi died in a vehicle crash on the M-1 Motorway near the Colonel Sher Khan Interchange, according to the National Highways and Motorway Police.
Preliminary investigations suggest the car suffered a sudden mechanical fault while traveling from Islamabad to Peshawar, causing the driver to lose control and plunge into a roadside drainage channel.
Afridi served as a senator from 2015 to 2021 and later as caretaker provincial minister for relief, rehabilitation and resettlement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, alongside his career as a business figure.
Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani expressed grief and called the death "a significant loss for the nation as well as parliamentary circles," extending condolences to Afridi's family.
Motorway Police and rescue teams provided immediate care at the scene; the driver sustained minor injuries while authorities continue investigating the exact mechanical causes of the crash.
